Fire Extinguishers

Australian standards (AS 2444; AS 1841) requires different extinguishers depending on your premises and the class of fire you need to protect from, this will determine location, type and size of extinguisher you require. Below is a chart which can help you determine which extinguisher best suits your premises.

There are 6 main types of fire extinguishers in Australia covering 6 classes of fire.

  • Water

  • CO2 (carbon dioxide)

  • Dry powder (BE)

  • Dry powder (ABE)

  • Foam

  • Wet chemical

Fire Blanket

Fire blankets are treated with a flame resistant chemical and are generally used in hospitality business or commercial kitchen environments, but are also useful in car garages.

Fire blankets are generally used to control small Class A, B and F fires as shown in the below chart.
